How Juding and Awards Work
At Future Starz Dance competition, we believe that every dancer has a unique story to tell — and that performance should be celebrated, not ranked. This is not a traditional, score-based competition. Dancers are never ranked or placed against each other.
Each routine is evaluated individually by our panel of professional judges, focusing on the dancer’s growth, performance quality, stage presence, execution, and overall impact.
All routines will receive an adjudicated award — Gold, High Gold, Platinum, or a Future Star Award — based on the performance itself. This is where scoring comes into play, giving dancers a personal benchmark of where they are in their journey and receive critiques to help them grow in their solo!
However, scores do not determine overalls.
The only way to win an overall award is by nomination. Judges select the routines that stood out most to them in each age division — These nominations are not based on comparison, or score but on impact in the moment.
Our judging process is built to encourage dancers to grow, be seen, and express themselves — without the pressure of traditional ranking. It’s about being your best, not being the best.
